The Stowers Institute for Medical Research has an opening for a Benefits Analyst. We are looking for a detail-oriented and highly analytical individual to join our team. This role requires someone with a solid foundation in qualitative analysis, along with the ability and desire to learn about the complexities of benefits management. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving skills, an interest in learning new concepts, and the ability to adapt quickly to different business environments. The ideal candidate will perform and assist with duties necessary for the administration of all benefit and retirement programs, including paying invoices that involves our plans in medical, dental, vision, life insurance, tax savings, employee assistance, short- and long-term disability, and retirement, 403(b) and 401(k) plans.

Responsibilities include:

  • Process and pay Stowers’ invoices related to employee benefits, vendor services, and other business expenses.
  • Verify and reconcile invoice amounts, ensuring accuracy before payments are made.
  • Support Senior Benefits Specialist in preparing reports, presentations, and ad-hoc analyses for senior management.
  • Analyze and interpret data related to employee benefits, payroll, and compensation.
  • Work with large data sets to identify trends, anomalies, and insights to help drive business decisions.
  • Develop and maintain financial analysis related to employee benefits plans, insurance, and other related areas.
  • Learn and apply knowledge about benefits packages, regulations, and financial modeling as it relates to employee health, wellness, and retirement plans.
  • Back up the Senior Benefits Specialist as needed.

Minimum requirements include:

  • Strong analytical skills with a solid foundation in quantitative analysis.
  • Proficiency in Excel (e.g., advanced functions, pivot tables, VLOOKUP).
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to synthesize large amounts of data.
  • Attention to detail and ability to produce accurate, actionable insights.
  • Willingness to learn and develop expertise in benefits-related matters (e.g., health insurance, 401(k), leave policies).
  • Experience with or ability to learn invoicing systems.
  • Strong communication skills to explain complex data and insights to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or equivalent field (e.g., Finance, Accounting, Economics, or similar).
  • 2-3 years’ working experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with HR/Benefits management systems (e.g., Workday, ADP, or similar tools).
  • Some understanding or coursework in corporate finance, accounting, or benefits administration.
  • Knowledge of employee benefits regulations (e.g., ACA, ERISA) is a plus.
  • Experience with invoicing or accounts payable software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) is beneficial.
