The Stowers Institute for Medical Research has an opening for a Research Technician in our Media Preparation core facility.
Responsibilities Include:
- Preparing reagents and media (yeast, microbiological) to standard specifications including pH, osmolality and antibiotic concentrations
- Modifying existing protocols to meet researchers’ requirements as needed
- Preparing and maintaining stock solutions for the media vending system
- Participating in the scheduling and delivery of finished products
- Troubleshooting new media formulations in cooperation with researchers
- Performing quality control checks on new raw materials
- Setting up and maintaining equipment and instruments
- Utilizing the LIMS system to organize, track and bill orders
- Assisting in the writing and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures
- Ordering raw materials and maintaining inventory
- Assisting with other duties as required
The successful candidate will have mastered a broad spectrum of basic laboratory techniques in general wet bench lab work and have excellent sterile technique; the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, as well as exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Minimum Requirements:
- A Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Microbiology or similar life sciences
- At least one year of relevant scientific experience
